Supporting your family’s sleep
When children are feeling worried or anxious one of the first signs is difficulty getting to sleep or staying asleep. However, a good night's sleep plays an important role in our children's overall wellbeing (and for all the parents who wonder how they can support their child’s immune system during cough and cold season - sleep is a big factor!).
According to the Sleep Health Foundation children aged 6 - 13 should get between 9 - 11 hours of sleep each night but this isn’t always possible or easy to do! That’s why we developed our Sleep for Families program.
The program has a variety of evidence-based and engaging activities, strategies and meditations to help establish good sleep routines and support a better night’s sleep for the whole family.
The program is divided into modules and focuses on ways to prepare for sleep that can be implemented during the day, in the lead up to bed, when going to sleep, if struggling to fall asleep or waking up in the night.
This short bed-time story is from the ‘Going to Sleep’ module from the program, it is designed to help children settle their mind and body in readiness for sleep. It involves paying attention to breathing, using imagination and listening carefully.
You can try listening to it together in bed or allowing your child to listen to it when they are ready to fall asleep. Simply relax and allow your imagination to be carried off as the story unfolds. No guarantees, but don't be surprised if your little ones are asleep by the end.
