Social and Emotional Learning for Lifelong Mental Fitness

Developed by a team of experts to build SEL skills

The Smiling Mind Primary School Program integrates the Smiling Mind Mental Fitness Model, focusing on building five core skills: mindfulness, flexible thinking, connection, purpose, and recharging the body. In the same way kids learn about physical fitness, we can teach them mental fitness through regular practice and empower them to thrive.

All of the learning content is mapped to the Australian Curriculum to support students’ social and emotional learning, and tailored training allows educators to confidently teach the curriculum without previous experience or mental health knowledge. Evidence-based tools to support schools to thrive

Our commitment to measurable impact is backed by external assessments, with ACER’s 2023 independent evaluation of the program revealing that 88% of educators report improvements in classroom dynamics and student engagement. Two in three students said that Smiling Mind enhanced their wellbeing, including improved focus on schoolwork, better emotional regulation, reduced worry, and more enjoyable playtime.

Learn about the key findings from our program evaluations, and its impact on students and educators. We are proud to have supported over 1,400 Australian schools to transform their classrooms with improved mental wellbeing.

On a mission to create generational change

We are a not-for-profit organisation backed by over a decade of experience, research and passion. Started in 2012 in response to the rising rates of mental illness among young people, Smiling Mind has risen as a leader in the preventative mental health and wellbeing space.

In this time, the Smiling Mind team has created a range of products and services and supported schools across Australia to help young people build, develop and practise the skills for resilience and social and emotional intelligence. We believe this is essential to ending Australia’s mental health crisis and empowering children to experience lifeLong mental fitness.
