The 2024 State of Mind Report is now live

The 2024 State of Mind Report undertakes a crucial exploration of the mental health of Australian children aged 4-12 and their caregivers.  This year's report shines a light on caregivers and the fact that they often grapple with heightened stress and anxiety, which can directly influence their children's wellbeing. See what else we uncovered.

A transformational vision

Half of all adult mental health conditions first emerge before the age of 14, and over the past 15 years, the number of young people experiencing mental ill-health has grown by 50%. Amidst this mental health crisis, Smiling Mind is seeking to create a long-term change in mental health by proactively supporting children to build the skills to thrive, before illness prevails.

Your daily workout for life—in your pocket

Informed by our new Mental Fitness Model, the refreshed Smiling Mind app supports you to develop your own, personalised approach to building a range of wellbeing skills, navigating challenges and meeting your goals. It’s your daily workout for life, in your pocket.

The Smiling Mind Mental Fitness Model

Mental fitness reflects our ability to be at our best each day, navigate challenges, and support a state of mental wellbeing. Just like we train different muscles to build physical fitness, we can practise a range of skills to build mental fitness. The Smiling Mind Mental Fitness Model is made up of five core skillsets which underpin our ability to thrive.

Led by evidence

Everything Smiling Mind does is informed by research, testing and evidence. Our psychologists and mental heath experts take time interrogating the literature to ensure our content and programs will have real impact. Check out our sources.

Creating generational change in mental health

The relationship between individuals and their mental health evolves with each generation. Together, we can create generational change by proactively taking action to ensure that the next generation of Australians have the skills to be mentally healthy and well—along with the adults who support them.

Mental wellbeing tools for all settings

Creating generational change in mental health involves the whole community. Kids are surrounded by adult role models and influences in every area of their lives—at home, in school, and in the wider community. That's why Smiling Mind creates tools and resources to support children and the adults who support them in any setting.
